Dr. Kim McLear (Retired U.S. Coast Guard Commander) is an author, veteran, and former State of the Union guest of honor who drives social change through the arts, tech, justice, and civic engagement. Kim is Black and queer first-generation American who previously served 20 years of distinguished public service as a senior officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. A former professor, engineer, cabinet-level special assistant, and whistleblower, she bravely exposed three of the largest cover-ups of racism, sexual assault, and retaliation in modern U.S. military history. Kim holds a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from The George Washington University. She has been featured in numerous media outlets from CNN to the New York Times, including a CROWN Act cover issue of Glamour Magazine.
